Collaborating with Hyungjun Cho and Naomi Yamashita, we developed PRESENTLY, an AI-mediated communication (AI-MC) tool designed to support self-presentation in hierarchical workplace emails. PRESENTLY allows users to define their desired impressions and receive third-person feedback while drafting. In a study with 22 participants, PRESENTLY helped users calibrate tone to power dynamics, fostered trust through explainable guidance, and reduced psychological burden. Our findings suggest that AI-MC tools can go beyond language assistance to provide psychological and cognitive scaffolding for effective self-presentation, emphasizing user agency and authenticity.
